Eleanor's Story

Eleanor Elizabeth Place is program designed for women and children who have been battered and abused. There is a story behind this woman of faith who used love as her shield and her commitment to God to save her family. Why did God choose her to be a symbol of Strength? No one will ever know! This woman, who like other women of faith, chose to be faithful such as Esther, Ruth, and Deborah. Please allow me to share her story.

It was a cold winter night. She was rocking her baby boy to sleep. She made her rounds tucking everyone in their bed. Her aunt had just turned in for the night. Eleanor heard a rumbling out side. She knew it was her husband coming in from work. The door swung open and she said, "Hi, baby". "I have been holding "Beave" all night". "He’s had a hard time all night". "He’s not breathing right". "We may have to run him to the hospital". She then heard him say, "Liz,get me something to eat, I’m hungry". "OK, one minute I have to put Beave down." He started yelling, "I said right now!" Before she knew it, she had been punched on the side of her face so hard that it knocked her out of the rocking chair. If she had been given some kind of warning, she would have taken action to defend herself. The punch was so hard it knocked her semi-unconscious. Her motherly instinct kicked in as she cradled the head of her baby boy leaving herself exposed.

Now the rocking chair was going backwards with her feet flying in the air. She still held on to her baby. Everything seemed to be in slow motion. Her head hit the floor. Oh, the sound! I can still hear the low moan of pain and her fighting to keep from losing consciousness. She was crying but still reaching for her child. The little boy looked at his mother laying on the floor hurt, but she was still reaching for him. He crawls over and cradles her head saying, "Mommy please wake up." "Please, God don’t take my Mom." He is now yelling for his Aunt and his brother who are waking up now because of all the noise. His mother is trying to wake up and comfort the boy who now has gotten up to his little feet with his teddy under his arm. With tears in his eyes, he tells this man, who he loves, "If you beat my Mommy up one more time I’m going to fight you back and when I get some size on me I am going to kill you!" "You’re killing my Mom." Her other son was yelling, "Stop this!" The Aunt was now taking over. His brother comforted him and held him. "Mommy will be alright." "Go to bed." "I will make sure Mom’s o.k., and he did.

This is just one story of many. This is why this program is named after her. A woman who put herself through school and has been a Drug and Alcohol Coordinator for a South Jersey school district. She and women like her who care will be ready to help families in crisis, and women and children who need to be safe. Why do I know so much about this woman? She’s my Mom! I am the little boy who has grown-up to be a man. I am the founder of Strength To Love Inc. Don’t wait! Help is just a phone call away. If you would like to speak to Eleanor Elizabeth call and leave a message. Your call or message will be forwarded to her and she will call you back!
